Our 50th year

This year mark's the year that Princess Diana would have turned 50. Okay, so it is my trite interest in the history of the British Monarchy or just my fondness for iconic underdogs. . .who knows. But I am a Princess Diana lover of many years.

I started following her when I was a young girl about to get married. I read every snippet in every newspaper I could get my hands on. I dressed like her, wore white tights and flats like her, cut my hair like hers, volunteered like she did. My wedding had the huge satin dress with a long train. Okay, maybe not 25 ft. I even processed down the aisle on the arm of my Daddy to none other that trumpet voluntary.

I watched the media build her up and tear her down. Watched her stuggle to find herself. Ditto with me. Her weight went down. Mine unfortunately went up. I desperately watched as her marriage crumbled. Shocked as she revealed publicly that there had been three in the marriage. Little did I know I would face the same situation a decade later. I watched as she picked up the pieces and made peace with herself and her God. She even met Mother Teresa. And with that, her life was suddenly snuffed out. That was a rough August in 1997. It took me years to get over it.

Then, I watched her sons grow. William into a noble Prince. Harry into a fiery, tempestuous soldier. and viola. . now we have Kate. Diana, who would have turned 50 on July 1st, must really be smiling. What a fresh breath of air into a monarchy that so needed it. Gone are the stuffy days of Prince Charles and the rottweiler (Diana's affectionate name for Camilla). God bless William and the homage he has paid to his mother in what would have been her 50th year. His beloved wore her ring. The wedding at the Abbey was as gorgeous as Diana's in 1981.

She will be eternally young with her death at 37. And I to age at 49 will begin the celebration toward's my 50th year. At first, I was going to just sort of ignore it. Now, I plan to Oprah-size it and celebrate it all year. Seven months away. Time to take stock, mulch a bit, count the blessings, and flush the tribulations for good. Just some reflective musings as I leave my middle adult hood.

Now. . .where to find those Kate Middleton LK Bennett pumps?

oh, thanks. most of the time I have to be so damn serious at work, it is nice to enjoy some fluff too. I donate to the homeless, volunteer, pay my dues and taxes. It might seem frivolous, but sometimes you just need a break. I work my ass off. So, sometimes just need to unwind. I found a knock off of the shoe, they are selling out everywhere. I ordered the Anne Klein Wystere pumps. Heel not quite so high! And cheaper too!
