What a cool week it has been. I got a chance to work with our "grow your own" students teaching them CPR. I also got a first aid/trauma lecture in there too. Their eyes were wide as saucers. Every preventable soap box was presented to their willing and eager minds. And as such, I am now a goddess teacher. Well. . . at least in their eyes anyway. I can dream.
Ahh. . .gotta love the fresh new enthusiasm of the young. Great plans, great expectations. I for one plan to motivate them, encourage them, support them. No eating the young from me. I am just getting to old to sling those bedpans. They are a diverse group. Almost half are male too!
Then, coolest of the cool, I got to witness their first day in clinicals. I thought I recognized one of the techs who was orienting my little sheep. She looked up and smiled. We did the "dont' I know you ?" looks. Sure nuff. . . she was one of my ADN students from last semester on her regular job as a tech. She said. . ."ah. . . .Ms. Traumadiva. Great to see you. This is just so cool getting to train the newbies when such a short time ago, I was one of your newbies."
And so goes the circle of our profession. My other RN students were looking on. My newbie was gleaming with pride as she took her first blood pressure. Now that is nursing!! Warm fuzzies for all!!!! Corny? Maybe so. But sometimes one needs to re-ignite the flame.
