The Golden Globes were on last night. The Hollywood foreign press group is a spirited hodge-podge of pseudo journalists who put on a tacky event as a pre-cursor to the Academy Awards. Basically to quality as a Hollywood foreign press, you just have to fill out the application and put down what internet or fly-by-night publication you write for. Oh and in the nationality section, put something besides the US. I love this awards show, you just never know what people are going to say or wear. TV combined with movies. It's great!
So, in honor of the Awards season kicking off and in the spirit of the new year, I decided it was time to post about some trash. My trash. TraumaDiva's Trashy Top Ten.
There are several things that are a bit trashy that I enjoy. I am sure it is due to the fact that I have to be so nice and professional on my job all day - that by the end of the day my niceness has just run out. My daughter lovingly puts it this way, "Mom, I listened to you for an hour at work and how nice you had to be to all those people on the phone or in your office. Man, no wonder you are such a witch by the time you get home. Gotta love ya."
She is right. Come 5 PM, it is time for some Mother's little helper and a good dose of mind numbing trashiness to soothe the soul. I think that's why trauma nurses love trauma. It's like old Forrest Gump said, "Life is like a box a chocolates, you never know what you're gonne get." You just never know what biotel 911 is going to call in next. Gotta luv it!
So, here is my 2009 list of favorite trashy past times and enjoyments.
TraumaDiva's Top Ten
10. Watching ice skating competitions on TV, especially the kiss and cry section.
9. Watching old ice skating competition videos if ice skating isn't on.
8. Watching old Princess Diana videos.
7. Watching anything on PBS or BBC about the Royal Family.
6. Fixing a plate of easy nachos. . .corn chips, Velveeta, and Pace picante in the microwave and watching Sex and the City videos.
5. Watching awards shows - favs are Grammy's for the tacky clothes; Golden Globes for the tacky speeches; and the Academy Awards. . .hey I do have some class.
4. Watching each and every season of the Bachelor/Bachelorette with my glass of champers.
3. Sleuthing screen caps, reading, posting and predicting the winner of each season of Bach/Bach-ette on FORT. (see link in TraumaDiva digs)
2. Reading and writing trashy novels. My favs: Scrupels, The Nannie Diaries, and just about anything by Sandra Brown.
1. Reading and writing blogs.
Yes, these are the fav pastimes of yours truly. And you know what? I love every minute of them. Notice the couch potato theme? No wonder my favorite holiday besides Christmas is Mardi Gras. Les bon temps rollez.
When not taking care of my children, I have absolutely no problem in filling my down time. Albeit there is room for personal growth here. Maybe I could sub one or two items on the list for a 30 minute work out on the bike or a long stroll - but if I am being honest, the list above are the things that I really love to do.
Ah, guess a lifetime membership to Weight Watchers will always be Oprah's and my destiny.
